Self-regulating electric heating cables are designed to maintain the temperature of metal or plastic pipes or tanks containing a liquid or gas. They are used for freeze protection or temperature maintenance of water, oil, viscous fluids or gases in circulation. They consist of two parallel copper supply wires embedded in a conductive polymer core whose resistivity varies with temperature. The insulation and external protection of the cable is provided by thermoplastic or fluoropolymer jackets. Easy to use, they can be cut to length on site. Because of their power limitation, self-regulating cables adapt to the temperature variations of the piping on which they are mounted, thus eliminating the risk of deterioration due to overheating. Several cable models are available, with different power ratings and maximum operating temperatures available. The self-regulating heating cables are certified for use in hazardous areas (ATEX, IECEx).
